9 Digital Citizenship Traits
Using Digital Citizenship Appropriately
This is a great video to use with students to introduce digital citizenship!
I come from a younger generation and was only 5 or 6 years old when the scandal came out. This goes to show the internet revealed anything I wanted to go find about the story and all the different articles and videos. I found things from the past and found things that the future generation of technology has exploited about her and the story. If we stop and think about all the affairs that might have been, happening at the same time none of those affected or reflected us. I am not defending affairs I just have an opinion that because she was in the public’s eye the government, newscast, TV, electronic sources all wanted a piece of the story. If this scandal took place today with all the different social media, I believe it ultimately could take someone’s life due to all the hate and cyberbullying. A person would never get another job or have a family. In today’s world, the way we guard ourselves is being aware and staying educated, getting involved and participating to help victims of harassment or humiliation.
Plagiarism- representing words, thoughts and or ideas as their own without credited citations. Example, copying and pasting from an online article to one’s research paper without attribution to the source.
Copyright infringement- violating the copyright owner by using their work unauthorized. Example, using someone’s corporate logo without permission
Attribution- CC licenses is attribution (Tile, Author, Source, and License). Example, mentioning the credits within the media itself- list of materials used with their licenses at the end of your video.
Transformation- General Guidelines, fair use analysis can fall into two categories 1. Commentary and criticism 2. Parody – Example, using an extensive amount of a musician’s original piece for your own altering purposes.
Intentional and Unintentional Digital Footprint
When you think of what you say or how you act, you are giving yourself a reputation without knowing. The same type of actions online can leave a person with a good or bad reputation. The difference between an intentional and unintentional footprint is being aware and in control of your online identity. Students have the advantage of learning from a young age to build themselves a positive profile.
